Patricia – the gift of education

Patricia is 22 years old, works full time to support her parents and younger brother, and has never finished high school.  Her parents are uneducated and their economic situation is dire.  Patricia has been working since a young age to help her family pay for basic necessities like soap, toothpaste, shampoo and detergent to wash their clothes.  A few years ago, she quit high school so that she could work.  She found a job as a maid for another family, where she worked 12 hour days, 6 days a week and received only $90 per month, which did not cover her basic necessities.  This schedule and rigor made it impossible for her to study and finish her education.  Like many youths we work with, Patricia struggled with the desire to better her future with education and the reality of needing to provide for her family.

A few of our teens in Peru were able to experience this for the first time this past Saturday when they joined together for worship and fellowship. Director sits on Regional Board

Liz Bernuy, the director of our new project and youth transitional home, Hogar Luz de Vida, was asked to sit on the Board of Directors for La RED Cenares, an organization that unites and speaks as the voice for all orphanages throughout the Libertad Region of Perú.  La RED Cenares works with 14 residential orphanages and homes, which our project, Hogar Luz de Vida, is a member.  Their goal is to help support centers that work with abandoned and at-risk children and are working towards spreading out to all regions of Perú.  The experts suggest ED sufferers consume drug at least 30 minutes prior to the sexual activity.
