Our project, Hogar Luz de Vida, was selected as the distributor of TOM’S shoes/Bucker in Northern Peru. The Peru Crew 2012 was able to help distribute over 3,000 pairs of shoes to children from orphanages and rural areas throughout Trujillo and surrounding areas. First Missions Trip Group Arrives
We organized a group of people from all over the U.S. – Colorado, California, Texas and Iowa – to serve on-site in Peru as the first missions trip to work with our project! Peru Crew 2012 arrived today and will spend 12 days serving at the youth transitional home, distributing TOM’S shoes and working with the women and children in the rural area. It is extremely exciting to share our ministry with this group of people!

New Residents at Hogar Luz de Vida
Azucena and Rachel moved into Hogar Luz de Vida towards the end of May. God brought us Azucena, 17 years old, who has aged out of the orphanage she’s called home since she was 12 years old. Azucena had to leave behind her 5 year old daughter, who will continue to reside in the orphanage until we can relocate her to a facility closer to the youth transitional home. Our staff are dedicated to help them build a strong and healthy relationship as mother and daughter. Azucena is motivated to finish her high school education and begin training for a job that will allow her to provide for her daughter.

Rachel, from Eagle, Colorado, moved in as our first, long-term volunteer. She is doing her internship with Corazón de Esperanza, serving our project Hogar Luz de Vida and working with the Mujeres Virtuosas project. Rachel has been coordinating and arranging schedules for other volunteers and upcoming groups and is also leading our weekly children’s program at Cerro la Virgen. She instantly fit in with the girls and took on the role as substitute madre tutora on the weekends. We are thrilled to have Rachel and her bright personality and work ethic. She is a great mentor for our girls and a wonderful addition to our team!

Our project, Hogar Luz de Vida, is partnering with Buckner International and TOMS to distribute shoes for thousands of children living in orphanages and rural areas throughout Northern Peru. A Mother Finds Hope
During her trip in January, one of our board members, Heather, and the director of the transitional home spent some time with a family that Corazon de Esperanza is supporting. This mother has four children with one on the way. Her youngest child, 2 years old, has physical disabilities and cannot walk or use both of her hands. The child also has occasional seizures. Corazon de Esperanza has assisted the mother in obtaining medical care and physical therapy for her child. Both the 12 year old son and 18 year old daughter have dedicated themselves to working instead of attending school. Her son breaks up rocks and concrete for money, while the daughter works cleaning houses. None of the children were attending school and we are working with the family to help enroll them for this year. The family is also supported by the father, who works with fertilizers.

Teens Move Into Hogar Luz de Vida

February 14 is the day many people across the Western world celebrate love. Although we often celebrate romantic love, we took this day to celebrate the power of God’s love as we inducted three girls into the youth transitional home, Hogar Luz de Vida. Together, with staff and youths involved in our scholarship program, we celebrated the opportunity for these young ladies to find hope through our organization. The group gathered together to share a meal and a service led by a local pastor.
Two of the girls, Yamelit and Yulianna, were transitioned to our home from a local orphanage where they have spent most of their lives. Liceth left her home in the jungle of Peru in hopes to find work in Trujillo to help pay for her university studies and live with her aunt. Unfortunately, her aunt locked her out one night and Liceth found herself homeless and on the streets. All three girls, are now living at Hogar Luz de Vida, provided with a three year program where they will learn how to become independent women in their own country. They will learn life skills, continue to grow in their faith and receive and education either from the university or a technical school Please pray for each of these young ladies during this next phase of their lives.

We Own Land!
Corazon de Esperanza has finally purchased a piece of property in Trujillo, Peru to contruct a building for the youth transitional home, Hogar Luz de Vida! The land is located near downtown and is close to several universities and businesses, giving our youths a wonderful opportunity to study and work. We are so thankful to those who have donated to make the purchase possible. An architect is working on the design for our building as we continue to raise funds to begin construction.

Cooking Classes
The staff at the transitional home (Luz de Vida) are spending two mornings a week in a small village near Huanchaco, Peru. They are working with low-income women to assist them in learning various skills that they can use to care for their families. The staff recently discovered that the women wanted to learn how to cook. The women have begun meeting every Monday and Friday for a devotional and cooking class. The women learned how to make “Arroz con Pollo” and the children, of course, enjoyed sampling the food too!
